Mia Brookes is an inspirational snowboarder and like many, we have loved following her over the years – and now love watching her compete on the World Stage in Slopestyle + Big Air.
She has only recently turned 18 years old, but already has impressive career accomplishments with multiple World Cup + X Games podiums, and recent back to back wins of the Women’s Big Air Crystal Globe, in the most progressive snowboard era to date.
It’s a massively busy year for Mia on the countdown to the Winter Olympics in February 2026, but we were lucky enough to catch up with her this week, for a few questions to find out where she is and what she is up to this season and of course, her memories from Morzine…
Where are you now and where have you been riding recently?
Right now I’m in Calgary! It’s super cold (-27!) hahah but going to be so much fun! I’ve been in the US for the past 3 weeks and it’s been so fun, last week we were exploring Jackson Hole and riding sleds for the first time, which was sick.
What are your top 3 highlights from this winter so far?
I would say becoming a 3 x X Games medalist is insane to say, still can’t believe it’s real. Also winning the Big Air Crystal Globe unexpectedly was insane. And just being able to travel the world with all of my mates is a big highlight.
What have you got on over the next few weeks?
The World Champs is coming up pretty soon and just before that is the last World Cup, so yeah it’s been busy but I’m starting to see the end of the tunnel.
Do you prefer competing in Big Air or Slopestyle?
Definitely Slopestyle, but nothing can compare to the feeling of dropping in on a scaffold Big Air in front of a huge crowd at night.
With so much back to back travel, how do you cope with jetlag?
I definitely don’t cope haha, but I love sleeping anyway so just lie in bed if I wake up early ahah and I try to stay up late when I’m fresh into a new country.
We last saw you back in 2019 (many moons ago!) when you were staying with us in Morzine, can you remember your fav spots to ride in the Portes du Soliel?
Yeah it’s been a really long time since I was in morzine! Would love to go back! Obviously I was super young, so I’d say the Stash was my favourite.
What would be your top tip for any young shredders who want to follow in your footsteps?
Just go and snowboard! Don’t force yourself to become something you’re not, just go and have fun – fall over with your mates and film some cool tricks!!
Mia is competing in the Calgary Slopestyle World Cup this week, and the Snowboard World Championships take place from 17 – 30 March 2025, where Mia will defend her title as Slopestyle World Championship which she won in 2023 aged just 16; so make sure you try watch where you can and in the meantime, go follow Mia @mia_brookes.
