Our team has put together some suggested itineraries so that you can make the most of your summer stay in Morzine…

There are so many trails and hikes to explore across the Portes du Soliel whilst staying in Morzine on your summer holiday.

Here is a suggested itinerary of hikes for a weeks stay in Morzine, with all trails easily accessed directly from Morzine…

HIKER’S DREAM

  • Day 1 – Get your bearings – tackle Pointe de Nyon
If you’re feeling energetic, take the trail from the Nyon waterfall and hike all the way up to the point. If you want to ease yourself in slowly, take the Nyon telepherique up to the plateau and make this a half day hike instead. Meander through the forest and over the ridge until you get up to the suspended viewing platform. Take in the beautiful views of Morzine and the surrounding peaks, before descending down to the lac behind. Stop off for a hearty lunch at Le Refuge with a beautiful lake view. After you’d filled your boots, you can slowly descend on the gentle piste run back to the telepherique for your decent. Take your swimmers to have a cheeky dip in the Nyon waterfall pools at the bottom.
  • Day 2 – Tete de Bostan
Take the bus to Lac Mines d’Or for an early start to hike up Tete de Bostan. This 8 hour loop weaves though the dense alpine firest, takes you over the border of Switzerland, with incredible views of the Dents du Blanche.
For experienced hikers only, you can spot the marmottes in the meadows on the way down and stop off at Refuge de Bostan for a crepe and refreshing beverage after you’ve summited. Then take your time meandering down through the pastures, listening to the sounds of the cow bells as you descend.
  • Day 3 – Waterfalls, Switzerland and Goats
Take the bus up to the Ardent Gondola in Montriond. Once at the top you can cruise the linderets bowl in search of the Brochaux waterfall. From here, you can head up the Mosettes chair to reach the Swiss border and take in the magnificent views. If you’re feeling energised, walk back down via the trail that passes by Lac Vert. Stop at the refuge for a quick coffee before continuing on to the Goat village. Restaurant Chaudron is the place to stop for a bite, it’s got a resident giant dog who’ll for sure clean up any dropped food. Head back down the Ardent gondola at the end of the day to save your legs for the next hike.
  • Day 4 – Lac de Tavaneuse
Right next to Lac Montriond at the hotel end, you’ll find the hidden trail that takes you up through the dense forest before reaching the plateau and the small hamlet of Chalets du Lens, located in the shadow of the huge peak of Nantaux. Continue past the hamlet and keep climbing until you reach Lac de Tavaneuse, a stunning Alpine lake, nestled in a hidden spot. Perfect for a little cool off. You can summit the Roc de Tavaneuse, for the added cudos and breathtaking views across the Alps. This half day hike is worth the climb, and you head back down the same trail to finish at Lac Montriond.
  • Day 5 – Smuggler’s Route
Take the bus up to lac Mines dor and take the path up the col de coux, where smugglers used to move their goods between France and Switzerland. Part of the gr50, you’ll see plenty of seasoned hikers passing by. The route is home to fairy farms so the bells of the cows can be heard wherever you are. You can either walk all the way back to town or get the bus back if the legs are getting weary.
  • Day 6 – Point de Ressachaux
The path up the illustrious ressachaux starts from Route des Putheys which is on the A bus route. It’s a tough climb up through the forest, but well worth it when you reach the chalets plateau. The views of the valley are second to none and you can take lunch here and watch for Chamois and Marmottes. Have a little rest before tackling the summit which is an open grassy path right to the top. 360 degree views greet you as you reach the top. A picnic at the top is welcome and worthwhile before meandering back down. A fantastic end to the week with views of all you’ve accomplished throughout the week.
