Summer is fast approaching & there’s lots going in the next few months in and around Morzine, here’s our top pick for your diaries…

Summer 2104 Lift openings – from Thurs 29th May

Bikepark Les Gets will pre-open from Thursday 29th May til Sunday 1st June and Saturday 7th June to Sunday 9th June (at a special price) then officially opens everyday commencing Saturday 14th June until Sunday 7th September.

Super Morzine will open from 15th June with the rest of Avoriaz lifts opening on 28th June until 1st September.

Pass’Portes du Soliel – Fri 27th – Sun 29th June

The Pass’Portes du Soliel event sets the start of the summer season – 3 days of mountain biking across the Portes du Soleil. The classic circuit is 80km long, it includes 7000m of downhill and 1000m of uphill. 14 lifts give you access to 9 different resorts, with some great riding along the way. The trails range in altitude from 2250m – 1000m and take riders through both France and Switzerland.

The event is not about who can get round the fastest, it’s to encourage everyone who enjoys riding to get out and explore some of the incredible biking terrain that the Portes du Soleil has to offer. Get yourself signed up!

Montreux Jazz Festival – 4 – 19 July

The festival held each July in Switzerland is one of the most famous Jazz festivals in the world. Set in the beautiful town of Montreux on the side of Lake Geneva, this years line up is impressive with the likes of Pharell Williams, Angus & Julia stone, Robert Plant, MGMT, Metronomy, Goldfrapp, Outkast & the legend Stevie Wonder. Even if you don’t purchase tickets for some of the big acts, it’s well worth a wander along the lake front with lots of street theatre, food delicacies & shopping stalls on display.

The World of Morzna – Thurs 24 July to Sat 26 July 2014

For 3 days, the Tourist Office Square becomes an imaginary village where children can meet elves, wizards, witches, fairies and other fantastic creatures. Children are invited to take part in various workshops like musical workshop, creation of masks, magic wands or magic hats, face painting, Morzna dance and music workshops & parades through the town. It’s a great free event for families.

One Day, One Climb – Sun 27th July
Calling all road cyclists – the famous Joux Plane Col is open just for you! The road is closed to all motor vehicles in both directions so road cyclists can enjoy the climb without having to worry about traffic.

Fete du Lac Montriond – Sun 2nd August

If your in town make sure you make your way out to Lake Montriond to enjoy the impressive firework display across the lake with the stunning mountain backdrop. The sound and light show sets off the beautiful natural setting and starts from 4.30pm with stands, snack bars and restaurants to keep you occupied before the fireworks commence around 8.30pm.

Mountain Air Yoga Holiday – Sat 30th Aug – 6th Sept

Morzine Mont Blanc Rally – Thurs 4th – Sat 6th Sept

In recent years the Rally has been a highlight in the Morzine summer calendar drawing large crowds to the resort. The sight of the cars parked around town is enough of an incentive to visit during the event, especially now that it is twinned with the classic car rally as well.  However, once they head up the road to Avoriaz, the real excitement starts.  The race takes place over two days, during which the drivers will cover over 600km around the Portes du Soliel and the Massif du Chablais.
